Across the Sands of Time
Across the Sands of Time

Across the sands of time is a sculpture created using mathematical equations to define minimal surfaces based on Sherk-Collins surfaces. It represents an hourglass (sandglass, sand timer, or sand clock) that is a device used to measure the passage of time. It usually comprises two glass bulbs connected vertically by a narrow neck that allows a regulated substance flow (historically sand) from the upper bulb to the lower one due to gravity. Still, the space modeled by the minimal surfaces makes the sculpture's flow. The sculpture was 3D printed in multiple parts with a $2M 3D Printer (generally used for sand casting) for its size and assembled in one piece. A special coating made with aluminum powder allowed it to be treated with a natural patina.

Form in Space 8 is a 3D-printed sculpture in translucent resin on an alabaster base that represents a warped toroidal. It was created by using a mathematical equation to develop a warped toroidal. It was first modeled in 3D and then 3D printed in resin. The transparency of the material allows one to see some of the internal structure of the shape.
