Artist Statement
The making process is something that characterize humanity. Making something with our hands and transform simple materials in objects useful for our body or/and mind, connect our self to one higher level of utility for others. Artists maybe have the gift/duty to do/give something even if sometime this could be selfish.
As an artist, I think about functions, forms, materials. I try to impose to myself some limits that can help me to work better, to concentrate. For family tradition, knowledge, and feeling I chose to work with a three dimensional objects and with metals. After I chose to work with few metals per each work. Normally, I start from a rigid, rigorous, geometric composition because it give me some rule that I have to follow. I try to transform this geometric imposition until the moment that the geometry disappear and a soft shape appears.
Having some limits is not limitative for creativity. Everybody has some and I think that I have a lot. With the passage of time I’m discovering that limits help me to realize new quality of myself and it is amazing when I finish a sculpture or a furniture with this qualities in that object.
I like connect the tradition with our time. For this reason, I love to work with iron forging but in contemporary way . I like to play with materials. I would that materials have a dialogue or a confrontation. The darken forged iron with the shining brushed stainless steel. Rectangular section with/against circular section. Soft shapes and nervy figures. Dualism is not only an oriental culture but it is present in every religion, philosophy and in the everyday choices. Maybe the work of an artist is to make choice and I think that I’m working in order to discover what are the best choices for my art
